Based on Ruthanne Lum McCunn’s novel of the same name, this film tells the real-life story of Lalu, a young Chinese woman whose desperately poor parents sell her into slavery. Trafficked to a nefarious saloonkeeper in Idaho’s gold country in the 1880s, Lalu is determined to reclaim her freedom.
