Birthday Parties at The James
Let us create an unforgettable birthday celebration with a western twist at The James Museum! Choose from three party themes for kids ages 5–12 and enjoy a private pre-decorated room, all-day admission for all party guests, a kid-friendly gallery program and art studio workshop.
We are currently booking for Spring 2025 and beyond!
The James provides:
- A studio classroom to celebrate the birthday
- An instructor for all activities
- Kid-friendly and age-appropriate gallery program and art studio workshop
- Art materials for the workshop
- A private pre-decorated party room for cake and presents
- Décor, cups, tablecloth, napkins and utensils
- All-day admission for all party guests

Birthday Party Themes
SPARKLE & SHINE
Learn about various types of adornment; from beads and leather to metals and precious stones. Then foil emboss your own wearable art using various tools and stamping techniques.
GIDDY UP
Saddle up and explore the fun of being a cowboy or cowgirl! Learn about the hardworking tools and materials they need to do their jobs, and experiment with leathercraft.
WILDLIFE ADVENTURE
Go on an art safari in search of zebra’s, wolves and wild horses and create your own clay creation inspired by what you find.

Things to Know
- Gallery program and art workshop will be age appropriate.
- The party will start promptly, and late arrivals will risk missing part of the program.
- Reservations are required with a minimum of 4 weeks’ notice.
- Reservations are confirmed upon 50% deposit.
- Photography is allowed without flash and for personal use only.
- Parents who are not chaperones can enjoy the café or drop off their child.

FAQs
To ensure that each child receives high-quality, personalized art instruction, we can accommodate up to 12 kids (including the birthday child) and 5 adult chaperones.
- Due to limited space in our gallery and classroom spaces, birthday parties are designed to be drop-off, but parents and caregivers are welcome to stay in the museum café until pickup time.
- At least one adult from the hosting family must be present at the party at all times. 5 adult chaperones are required.
All-day museum admission is included for all party guests (the children attending the party and the 5 adult chaperones).
The party lasts for 2 hours and includes:
- 10-minute welcome
- 30-minute themed tour & scavenger hunt
- 45-minute artmaking in studio
- 30 minutes for cake and presents
Reservations: Reservations are confirmed upon 50% deposit. The final amount must be paid in full 5 days prior to your party.
Cancellations: A $50 administrative fee will be deducted from all cancellations; cancellations made less than 5 business days prior to the party will result in a loss of full deposit. In the case of an emergency related to health, severe weather, or museum closure, your party can be rescheduled to a later date. Dates are subject to availability
The birthday parties are packed full of fun activities and due to time constraints we ask that you please bring a birthday cake and beverages (canned or bottled) only, no other food.
Decorations include teal and orange tablecloths, pom garland, bunting, and a Happy Birthday banner.
Due to the nature of the museum space and for the safety of our collection, we kindly ask that you do not bring additional decorations. The following items are prohibited in the building.
PROHIBITED ITEMS:
- Flowers or living plants
- Alcohol
- Balloons
- Pinatas
- Glitter
- Confetti
- Silly String
- Candles
- Food outside designated areas
Birthday parties take place in our two Education Classrooms. The classrooms are equipped with moveable tables and chairs, storage cubbies, a TV monitor, small fridge and sink. Accessible bathrooms are located nearby.
The hosting family may access the studios up to 30 minutes before the event starts to drop off cake and beverages.
Museum Parking is available on Levels 3 & 4 of the automated South Core Parking Garage. Enter the garage behind the museum at 101 1st Ave S, St. Petersburg, FL 33701. The garage rate is $1/hour during regular operation. Please note: special event rates vary and may apply. You can reach the parking garage at 727-242-1225 with any questions.
