READ ‘EM & EAT: BOOK CLUB

December 13 @ 11:45 am - 1:15 pm

Power, by Linda Hogan

Thursday, December 13

11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m.

Included with admission; free for members

This story of a sacrificial killing of a panther, set in the richly textured landscape of Florida, lends itself to discussion on multiple levels. Power explores traditional tribal values in conflict with those of mainstream American culture, as experienced by 16-year-old Omishto of the (fictional) Taiga Tribe. Omishto’s loyalties to her tribe are tested and she must learn to navigate between the two worlds in which she lives. Purchase a boxed lunch from The Canyon or bring your own. Space is limited; email education@thejamesmuseum.org to RSVP.
