Landscape, Cosmology, and Astronomy in Native American Cultures

June 1, 8 & 15

Celestial observations played a key role in the development of cosmologies, calendar systems, architectural planning, and site layout among indigenous cultures throughout the Americas. This series focuses on how sky watching traditions have impacted Native American peoples from pre-Hispanic times to present. Led by anthropologist Dr. Gabrielle Vail, discussions will focus on the cultures of the Southeastern and Southwestern United States and the Maya cultures of Mesoamerica.
