The James Museum offers a variety of fun and engaging activities for adults, children, families, and school groups. Whether you join us for a moment of quiet contemplation in our galleries or an activity-filled day, there is plenty to learn and explore on your own or with a group.

Youth + Families

Summer Camps 

Ignite your child’s inner artist with fun, hands-on summer camps at the James Museum! Children ages 6-11 will get inspired by the museum’s artwork, explore the galleries through games and activities, and create their own masterpieces under the guidance of a teaching artist. For more information, email education@thejamesmuseum.org.

Wild for Wildlife
June 25 –June 29
Ages 6-8

Join us on an animal art safari! Travel westward and beyond to discover amazing animal art from the museum’s collection. Create your own wildlife-inspired masterpiece. Practice drawing, painting, and sculpting techniques while learning about the natural habitats and characteristics of wildlife from around the world.

Native American Art & Craft
July 9 –July 13
Ages 9-11

Explore the cultures, traditions, and artwork from the Native American tribes of the Plains, Southwest, and Pacific Coast. Learn traditional craft methods such as weaving, bead stitching, leather tooling, and sculpture to create personalized artwork that connects the past to the present.

Family Days 

Bring the kids every second Saturday for fun with a Western and wildlife twist! Enjoy different themed activities each month, including story time in the galleries, a kid-friendly guided tour, a make & take art project, and a chance to explore the museum with a family activity guide. Public Tours 

Walk with a James docent on a highlights tour of the museum. Starting May 5, tours are offered Saturdays at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. and provide a 45-minute overview of the galleries with a focus on key works of art. Free with admission; reservations not required. (Groups of 10 or more are eligible for a private tour and discounted admission rate if scheduled in advance.)

Group Tours 

Bring your group to experience St. Petersburg’s newest museum destination. Private docent-led tours of the museum are available for groups of 10 or more. Group tours must be scheduled at least four weeks in advance. Adult group rates: $15 for adults; $10 for seniors (65+) and college students. For more information, email education@thejamesmuseum.org.

James After 5

Round up your friends for some Tuesday night fun at The James. Starting May 1, the museum is open from 5-8 p.m. every Tuesday featuring $5 admission to our galleries. While you are here, stay for a Western film, live music, a two-step lesson, or gallery talk. Visit our Event Calendar to see what’s on!

    Please stay together. Experiencing the museum is more enjoyable with your family and friends. We suggest adults to hold hands with younger children in the galleries.

    Don’t Forget the Map

    Don’t forget to take a map from the admission desk. Plan on where to meet if anyone is separated. A Visitor Service Associate is always around to help.

    No Touching

    Look at the art with your eyes and not your hands. We want to keep you and the artwork safe.

    Sketching in the Galleries

    Pencils and sketchbooks are the only drawing tools allowed in the galleries.

    No Food or Drink

    No food or drink is permitted in the galleries. Please enjoy these inside our café.

    Photography is allowed.  Feel free to share on social media #thejamesmuseum. No flash photography, tripods, video cameras or selfie sticks, please.

    Lavatory

    Water fountains and restrooms are located on the first and second floors. Please refer to our museum map or ask a Visitor Service Associate for help. All restrooms are equipped with diaper changing tables, and are ADA accessible.

    Pack it & Stash It

    Backpacks may be worn by adults, on the front of your body. Lockers are provided on the first floor across from the admission desk. Children are not permitted to carry backpacks in the galleries.

    Bundle Up

    Artwork is best conserved at a lower temperature. We recommend bringing a sweater or jacket even if it is warm outside.

    Slow Down

    Always walk, never run. We don’t want you to miss anything.

    We have quiet spaces for nursing and prayer. Please ask a Visitor Service Associate for assistance.

    Stroller Roll

    Standard strollers are allowed in the galleries.
