The Warp of Time: A Celebration of Indigenous People’s Day

Join master weaver Concepción Poou Coy Tharin (Q’eqchi’ Maya) as she demonstrates the endangered art of pikb’il weaving using a traditional backstrap loom. Concepción will be joined by anthropologist Dr. Gabrielle Vail for a discussion of the significance of this ancient tradition and its importance in contemporary Q’eqchi’ culture. Registered participants will receive a link prior to the program to view the film Sheer Elegance: Surviving Strands of Ancient Maya Weaving, which highlights pikb’il weaving, including that done by Concepción and members of her extended family.
