Internationally-known photographer Ron Tarver will be offering two private one-on-one sessions in which participants will have the opportunity to receive portfolio critiques from an award-winning professional. Each participant must provide at least 4–6 hi-resolution photographs to the museum in advance of the workshop or bring 8×10 or 11×14 images of their work for review. Special Photography Editing Workshop and Portfolio Review with Ron Tarver For Intermediate & Experienced/Advanced Leisure and Professional Photographers February 5 | 1–5 p.m. $125; $110 members
This workshop includes a group critique of participant’s work led by the instructor. Each participant must provide 4–6 photographs to the museum in advance of the workshop. Detailed information about format/size and submission process will be provided upon registration.
The James Museum is offering the unique opportunity to learn in-person from internationally recognized photographer Ron Tarver. In this workshop, Tarver will share his photo editing process and workflow, provide insights into composition, and offer critique and feedback on participant’s work. From looking at editing software to talking about the role of AI in photography, you will gain insight into the process of a distinguished professional photographer while having the opportunity to hone your creative practice and techniques.

ABOUT RON TARVER Ron Tarver has worked for more than 30 years as a photojournalist at the Philadelphia Inquirer and was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for his work in 2012. He has been nominated for three Pulitzers and been honored with awards from other national, state, and local honors. Tarver’s work has appeared in National Geographic, Life, Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, Ebony, Jet, Black and White Magazine, Huffington Post, and Hyperallergic. He is a co-author of the book We Were There: Voices of African American Veterans, published by Harper Collins in 2004, and his latest book The Long Ride Home: Black Cowboys in America released August 31st this year (2024).
